As Director – Engineering, you will own the architecture, delivery, scalability, and stability of FOTATO’s entire tech ecosystem—from consumer apps and delivery systems to merchant dashboards and internal tools. This is a leadership role that blends technical depth, people leadership, and execution excellence with a strong foundation in startup scaling challenges.
Lead architecture and development across all core platforms:
Consumer App (Android/iOS)
Fleet Partner App
Restaurant Partner Web Dashboard
Admin Ops & CRM Tools
Translate business vision into scalable and secure tech solutions
Drive release cycles, uptime, reliability, and performance benchmarks
Own build vs. buy decisions for platform components and integrations (POS, Payments, ERP, etc.)
Lead and mentor a team of Engineering Managers, Developers, QA, DevOps, and Production Support
Set coding, testing, and documentation standards
Create an engineering culture that values clean code, accountability, and rapid delivery
Foster continuous learning and knowledge-sharing across frontend, backend, and DevOps
Oversee cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), CI/CD, observability, and cost optimization
Implement scalable APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures
Ensure platform security, privacy, and data protection (in compliance with Indian DPDP Act)
Establish a strong Production Support team to manage incidents, monitor uptime, and ensure rapid resolution of tech issues in real time
Define SLAs, escalation processes, and on-call rotations to support live operations
Work closely with Product, Growth, CRM, and Operations teams
Translate requirements into tech specs and system-level designs
Drive sprint planning, backlog grooming, and agile reviews
Partner with Finance and Data teams to deliver real-time dashboards and internal tools
Frontend: React.js, Next.js
Backend: Node.js, Express.js
Mobile: React Native (iOS & Android)
Database: MySQL, Redis
Infra: AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudFront)
Others: REST APIs, Webhooks, Kafka (future), GitHub Actions
8+ years of engineering experience with 3–5 years in leadership roles
Proven experience scaling consumer or logistics tech products in early or growth-stage startups
Hands-on experience with cloud architecture, backend performance, and distributed systems
Strong people management, mentorship, and hiring experience
Deep understanding of delivery metrics: latency, concurrency, uptime, transaction integrity
Agile mindset with a bias toward shipping and iterating
Previous experience in food delivery, quick commerce, mobility, or gig-economy platforms
Strong problem-solving with product intuition
Passion for building tech for Tier 2/3 markets (low bandwidth, low-end devices, vernacular needs)
Comfort with fast-paced, zero-to-one environments and startup-style execution
